The Carbon Smart way.
Each year, 36 million trees fall in US cities. The vast majority are mulched, landfilled, or burned — resulting in as much as 4 billion board feet of marketable lumber wasted. A single board foot of Carbon Smart Wood™ sequesters an average 5.23 lbs CO2e (equivalent to 289 smartphones charged), preventing greenhouse gas emissions resulting from decomposition and disposal. That is why we are proud to be able to put the Carbon Smart Wood™ stamp on all of our projects.
Carbon Smart Wood™ is never harvested, and only sourced from trees that are removed from urban canopies due to disaster, disease, development, or decay. By upcycling wood from our waste stream, we can allow more healthy trees to remain rooted in our forests and more carbon to stay sequestered in usable lumber.
Baltimore Fallen Lumber owns and operates their own mills and kilns to ensure a unique and beautiful inventory of locally sourced lumber. All of our logs are processed at our facility in Monkton, Maryland to make what we can proudly call Carbon Smart Wood™. This unique lumber is then transported to our showroom and fabrication warehouse in Halethorpe, MD where we build 100% of our custom solid wood projects for both residential and commercial clients.
An Ethically sourced & Local Supply.
We salvage logs from a number of local sources that are environmentally friendly, and in turn reduce landfill waste. These include individual land and home owners that reach out to us, parks/recreation departments around Baltimore City, as well as construction projects that need to remove dead trees. These trees commonly come down due to disease, natural disasters, development, and plight. We are taking these trees out of the waste stream and giving them a second life as custom heirloom grade furniture.
Made to last.
Hand Crafted in Maryland.
When trees fall due to development, old age, or disease they are all too often sent to a landfill or mulch pile. BFL repurposes this sustainable resource by salvaging the logs from local tree companies, governments, and landowners and turning them into beautifully handcrafted pieces.
We cut, dry, and process the lumber at our sawmill and shop in Baltimore, Maryland for residential and commercial projects. We use this unique and beautiful lumber to build our custom stair treads, countertops, commercial furniture, conference and dining tables, accent walls, bars, and more.
We use the finest machines and technology to create the highest quality heirloom-grade pieces of furniture possible. We fabricate and finish everything all in-house with our talented craftsmen that have more than 40 years of fabrication experience between them.
